5 Salon Marketing Tips for the Holidays

The holiday is season is busy for everyone. Schedules are tight and emotions can run high. The best way to take advantage of the hectic season is to plan ahead. Think through how you can grow your business and help your customers look and feel their best, and use savvy marketing to keep your salon top of mind when it comes to gift giving. It’s not too early to get started! 

Here are five strategies that you can implement  now to ensure that you get the most out of this holiday season: 

1. Promote your specials early
The beginning of November is an excellent time to start promoting holiday specials. Busy salons can lose out on sales because so many clients wait until the last minute to get themselves looking their best for holiday parties and family gatherings. Send a holiday-themed email campaign that notifies your clients of any specials you’re running during the season, and encourage them to book early so they don’t miss out. 

2. Promote gift cards
Your salon can earn a nice chunk of its annual revenue from gift card sales during this time of year. Did you know that gift card sales are expected to reach $160 billion by the end of this year, with $27.5 billion expected to be spent during the holiday season alone? 

With those kind of numbers, your salon cannot afford to miss out on this kind of opportunity. Offering your clients the option of purchasing a gift card for a loved one can ease their stress when holiday shopping. Don’t forget to wrap gift cards nicely and promote them in email, on your social pages, on your website, and in your salon. 

3. Rescue lost customers
For the clients that visited once and never came back again you can send targeted promotions to entice them to book again at your salon. Odds are, these clients have a company holiday party coming up that they want to look the best for or they may need a stylish hairdo for for a New Year’s Eve bash. Make sure your salon is their go-to destination with special promotions directed to them. 

4. Fill slow days
The holidays may not seem like a time when you’re concerned about filling slow days, but focusing on booking up less busy times of the week is critical to maximizing sales. Popular salons get slammed on evenings and weekends in the month of December, but still tend to have openings that go unfilled during weekdays. By setting up specials to run that are only valid at less busy times, you can proactively book clients who would have otherwise booked a primetime slot on the weekends, and end up making room for clients who can only make it during your busy times and may otherwise have to seek out another salon to fill their needs because they didn’t plan ahead.

5. Share your best work 
The holidays are a chance to try something special and unique to stand out at holiday parties and family gatherings. This fall, hair colors reminiscent of a pumpkin spice latte have been popular. During the winter, pale shades of blonde and rich, deep brunettes are usually a safe bet, but iridescent hair color is a new trend. Don’t forget to share your most interesting work on social media and your website so customers can find inspiration and get reminded to book.
